Promoting on social media platforms is one of the keys to get more blog views and engage with many bloggers.
Sharing your blog posts via your social media properly will help deliver a steady stream of visitors to your blog.
When starting a blog back in June, I start to utilize social media to increase blog traffic. After publishing blog posts, I always make sure to promote my content using social media especially on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest.

What is Social Media Promotion?
It is easy to understand how to promote on social media platforms but kinda difficult to execute. You can’t simply broadcast the same content on each social media platform. You need to tailor your message to fit each platform and your audience.
If you’re promoting a new blog post, you may need to make your content on Facebook different from Twitter. On Twitter, you’re restricted to 140 characters, so you have to keep your message short and simple. On Pinterest, your image is the primary way to draw viewers’ attention.
How your audiences interact with various formats also differs. For example, using multiple hashtags on Twitter and Instagram works well, but using them on Facebook won’t necessarily give the same results.
Here’s check four top social media platforms and how to promote your blog posts to grow each community.
Social Media Promotion on Twitter
I have loved using Twitter for years ago. Twitter was the first social network to introduce hashtags and @ handles for better search and networking options. As Twitter evolved, the maximum Tweet length grew to 280 characters from 140 – still short and brief, but enabling more expression.
To get more retweets, be sure to include images and links. Twitter recommends using no more than 2 hashtags per Tweet as best practice, but you may use as many hashtags in a Tweet as you like. I personally use more than 2 hashtags to make the post more searchable for trending keywords and will generate more engagements.
Adding a call to action also can improve your results. For example, ask for help, ask for an opinion, ask for retweets, or for users to follow you.
The best time to post on Twitter is between 8 to 10 AM, 11 AM to 1 PM, and after work from 4 to 7 PM.
Share your blog post on Twitter more than once on different days and at different times, especially if the content is evergreen (relevant for the foreseeable future). I suggest crafting 3-5 separate tweets that you’ll publish at different times. This strategy works well because you don’t want to fill your timeline with the same content repeatedly.
Share it up to four times for your initial promotion, and then slow down to a weekly and then monthly frequency. If you have hundreds of evergreen blog posts, you can tweet two or more posts every day. New followers can discover you through your old content.
Social Media Promotion on Facebook
The best thing about Facebook is that it lets you promote your blog post on your profile, pages, and groups.
Facebook posts can contain up to 63,206 characters, but only the first 460 characters are visible in the timeline as the rest is hidden behind the ‘See More’ link. And Facebook posts with fewer than 50 characters have shown to be more engaging than longer posts.
Posts with images work best on Facebook, so when you share your blog post, remember to upload an image and put your link in the text field instead of using the automatic link preview post.
According to Buffer, the best times to post on Facebook are from 1 PM – 3 PM during the week and Saturdays. They also found that engagement rates are 18% higher on Thursdays and Fridays.
The best frequency for posting on Facebook is once a day. Share your blog post once for initial promotion. You can share it on your profile, page, and in groups, but at different times and with different text.
Social Media Promotion on Pinterest
Pinterest is my 3rd source for blog views now! I have been using Pinterest for 2 months, although it’s not much but I get clicks and saves from Pinterest every day. Check my Pinterest strategy for a new algorithm in 2020.
On Pinterest, the visual or the image is the most important part of your pin. Pinterest gives you 500 characters to describe and convey that your pin is about.
Keep your descriptions between 150 – 300 characters to help convince users to click. Don’t forget to include searchable keywords as hashtags in the description.
As you know, always add a link to your pin descriptions to promote your blog posts and increase clicks to your site. And add calls to action, e.g. Read More, Learn More, Repin, etc to encourage people to engage.
The best times to post on Pinterest are from 7 to 10 PM and 2 PM to 4 AM.
Share the featured image of your blog post on Pinterest for your initial promotion. Then upload all shareable images successively over the following days and weeks. This strategy allows you to re-share your blog post with different visual elements.
As for me, I schedule Sunday to create Pinterest pins. Unlike some bloggers who pin more than 20 pins per day, I only upload 3-5 pins per day for now, so it means I have to create 21-35 pins for a week. And because my audiences are mostly from the U.S., I post my pins between 8 PM – 10 PM every day!
Social Media Promotion on Instagram
I haven’t started promoting my blog on Instagram yet because I mostly use it for personal. Instagram presents images in a single stream and the lifetime of an image post on Instagram is much shorter than on Pinterest.
Instagram provides a unique square size for images, which is 1080 x 1080 pixels. Captions can be up to 2,200 characters, but it is better to keep your captions below 125 characters to attract more audiences and generate engagement.
Hashtags are important on Instagram. You probably see that many captions consist of hashtags only. Use the keywords of your blog post as hashtags so many Instagram users can find your post – you can add up to 30 hashtags.
Since Instagram doesn’t display clickable links, you can add a URL in your caption or pint users to the URL in your profile to drive followers to your blog.
The best times to post on Instagram are midday, in the evening, and even as late as 8 to 9 PM, when people are winding down for the day.
You can promote your blog post on Instagram by sharing featured images. Then over the following days and weeks, share other images from your blog post to use different visuals to promote it.
Promoting your blog on social media platforms can help drive traffic to your blog. However, try to use different messages for one blog post to all of your networks, so you don’t miss opportunities for outreach and engagement.
You need to tailor your posts to each network and audience. You don’t have to make major changes; just a slightly different approach can greatly improve your results.
