As freelancers and self-employed, how do you manage your work and money? Do you use different tools to help you manage all of them?
Last month, I was searching for a blogger contract template. I came across an all-in-one tool called Bonsai – a tool that will help me manage my freelance translator and content writer jobs!
What I don’t expect is, they not only provide me with a contract template, but they have everything I need (wish I knew them before!). From proposals, contracts, invoices, online payments, and forms to accounting and tax tools. Amazing!
As someone who sometimes having problems with digital decluttering and is clumsy with saving important files, I’m sure Hello Bonsai will definitely save my time (I don’t need to click many folders or apps anymore) and stay organized.
I haven’t used Bonsai in years, but here are some honest reviews about them for some features I used.
This month I signed contracts with brands for a long-term partnership. So I need a contract template that clearly defines the client’s and my expectations of each other, as well as what happens in various scenarios.
Bonsai have ready templates for the contract that I want. A good contract doesn’t need dozen of pages. What I know, good contracts focus on three critical points: work scope, payment terms, and intellectual property. Therefore, my contract only has 2-3 pages.
Whether you’re a translator, blogger, influencer, graphic designer, etc., you can customize your templates based on your services. Having a contract not only protects you from a lawsuit but also ensures everyone follows a mutually beneficial plan. This is why it’s important to have a contract for every project.
Besides contracts, there is something that I truly need from Bonsai, which is invoice templates. Their invoices system accepts PayPal, Stripe, credit cards, etc. There is integration between contracts and invoices, so your clients are sent invoices automatically with regular payment reminders.
You can also set a late fee percentage when you send the invoice, so your clients are encouraged to pay on time. In another word, Bonsai is designed to help you do more, work less, and make sure you get paid on time!
With this tool, if you’re an editor or translator doing the job by the hour, you can automatically set the invoices based on your hourly rate. No need to worry when you’re forgetting something, because Bonsai also provides you an overview of your earnings and workflows.
Accounting and Taxes
Other than invoices, for sure you also need to track your income and expenses. But what makes Bonsai is awesome tool is that it can help you prepare your taxes (and remind you to make payments) as a freelancer or self-employed. It also helps you with deduction and tax savings.
In 2020, Bonsai launched a Self Employment Tax Hub to help freelancers with a self-employed tax calculator, tax deductions by work type, and a free ebook.
Well, if you’re someone who likes to track your tasks, another great feature that Bonsai have is task management.
For bloggers and freelancers who need to stick with deadlines and manage their time to complete each task, it’s not easy to prioritize your tasks, track time spent on each task, and create deadlines. It’s important to break down your time management when you have so many clients and multiple projects to do. Bonsai’s task management feature will help you with this.
With Bonsai, I can do all of these:
- Create & e-sign free contracts from templates.
- Integrate my time tracker with my workflow.
- Smart invoices & integrated payments to ensure timely payments.
- Create & track expenses and reporting templates.

I didn’t want to lose all the data I have on different software so Bonsai makes everything pretty easy.
Having everything in one place can help improve my business professionally. Moreover, I feel secure with my jobs because I have contracts between me and my clients. So I highly recommend Bonsai to any bloggers and freelancers.
