There are times where we are super motivated, high on ideas, and ready to smash our blogging goals but there are also days where we seem to be unmotivated and the last thing we want to do is the blog. I have had my blog for 8 months now and while I love it, there are days where I find myself in one hell of a blogging rut. On days like that, what do I do?! Below is how to break out of a blogging rut.
You are in a rut?! Accept it. It’s absolutely normal to be in a rut. We are humans and not robots and so there will be times when we won’t be motivated to do stuff. No one is always motivated all the time 24/7, 365. On days where you aren’t motivated, instead of beating yourself up and trying to force yourself to get things done, accept it. Whenever I’m in a blogging rut, I don’t force myself to write posts because I feel like my audience can always feel the vibe or energy I give off in my posts. I just accept it and spend my time on other things I enjoy doing.
Remember your why
It is very important to know your why in everything you do. Remembering the reason why you started in the first place can get your motivation spiraling. If you get into a rut, remember why you started. Personally, I started blogging because I am passionate about helping people live their best life and I want to change the world by lending my voice.
My why motivates me even on days where I seem to be in a blogging rut. The truth is you can’t be motivated all the time. There will be days where you won’t feel motivated to blog but remembering your why will help keep you focused and improve your motivation.
Take breaks from blogging
It can be counterintuitive to stop blogging in order to get out of a blogging rut but taking breaks helps a lot and the importance of taking a blogging break can never be overemphasized. We are humans and there will be times when we just need to take time out from blogging and focus on ourselves and other areas of our life. I used to be scared of taking breaks. I didn’t want to take a blogging break only to come back and realize I and my blog have been forgotten but guess what! I took breaks from blogging and I wasn’t forgotten. My blog wasn’t forgotten either.
Here’s a thing. Your traffic might reduce a little if you take a break but believe me, the benefits of taking a break from blogging are way more than the disadvantages. Blogging can be overwhelming and all-consuming but taking a break will help you recharge, get new ideas and come back feeling refreshed. A break might be just what you need to make your motivation skyrocket and get your creative juices flowing again. Also, in my opinion, it would be great to publish a post beforehand telling your readers that you’ll be taking a break instead of going away without informing them. Your readers will understand, and will still be there when you come back.
Give your blog a little glow up
Sometimes, the one thing you need to do to come out of a blogging rut is to give your blog a new makeover. I have tried this and it worked like magic. If you are feeling unmotivated and stuck in a rut, give your blog a little makeover. Go on Etsy or any theme store. Search for a theme, get one that catches your attention and changes your blog’s theme, update and rearrange your sidebar, change your blog’s logo.
Just give your blog a makeover and see how your motivation rises! You don’t want to change your blog’s theme and all that too often but glow-ups are needed and even a small change can inspire you to go on with your blog and motivate you to fire on.
Change your routine
If you are a blogger, then you probably already have a blogging routine which is fab. I love routines! I have a routine for my blog and it helps so much. While it’s fantastic to have a blogging routine, things can get very boring without variety so switch things up and change your routine.
