One of the main goals for bloggers is to make a full-time income from blogging. If you’re trying to turn your blog into a full-time career, like me (I hope someday), then the most important thing now is to build a trusting audience.
You might be wondering how to get people to buy what you are selling? Many would think that you need thousands of blog traffic in order to sell products. That’s not the case!
Blog traffic will help you get more eyes and potential clients BUT if you aren’t using proper strategies to turn them into loyal audiences, then you’re not on the right path! That’s why it’s important to build a trusting audience who want to purchase what you are selling.
Before I get started with the tips, I know that I need to list some product ideas or services that you could potentially offer to your audience to generate some income through your blog!
Products Ideas or Services To Generate Income
One of the most popular ways to make an income is through affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is when bloggers join an affiliate program and get an affiliate link for a product they are recommending.
The affiliate link is trackable so if someone purchases a product through your affiliate link, then you will receive a small commission for that sale at no additional cost to the buyer.
But affiliate marketing can be tough in the beginning, not only for new blogger but also experienced blogger. For some reason, people just don’t like helping others make money … This is why building trust with your audience is so important. If your audience trusts you, they will support you by using your affiliate link.
Here some of my favorite affiliate programs that I actually use:
- Bluehost: If you don’t already self-host your blog, I definitely recommend it so that you can have complete ownership over your blog, use awesome plug-ins, speed up your site, and improve your SEO!
- Creative Market: Creative Market is a place where graphic designers and such will sell their products. There are so many different digital products on there from themes, stock photos, to even different fonts!
- Bluchic: Bluchic is a place where you can find stunning, professional-looking DIY themes. Bluchic’s feminine WordPress themes are outrageously stylish, incredibly flexible, and easily customizable. It sure checks all the boxes for the service-based entrepreneur looking to land all the dreamy clients.
- Ivorymix: If you’re a female entrepreneur/mompreneur or if this matches your target audience, then you definitely want to consider this stock photo site. Affordable, attractive, and easy to use styled stock photos that are ready for you to use on any platform!
Products You Can Sell
- E-Books and E-Courses
This one is the most popular digital product that helps bloggers to make a full-time income. Many think that you can only create it if you talk about ‘blogging.’ That’s entirely wrong! If you are a writer who loves and has a passion for fashion, cooking, traveling, then you can write an ebook on that topic and sell it to your audience.
You need to brainstorm what it is that you can offer and something that is useful to your audience that you know will answer their problems.
- Stock Photos
If you are really good at photography, you can definitely create and sell your stock photos! Bloggers always need and use stock photos on Pinterest, social media, and even on their blog.
- Graphic Designs
If you are really good at graphic design, you could create logos, patterns, banners, etc. to sell! You can sell it on Etsy or Creative Market.
This one I love so much! I bought a package of beautiful presets and even though I’m not good at taking photos, I can make my Instagram ‘theme’ look eye-catching with presets.
If you are really good at editing photos, you can create the ‘theme’ of Instagram and sell it to your audience!
There are so many printable things you can create easily. You could create and sell planners, journaling, trackers, any kind of printables to help your audience stay organized.
Tips To Build A Trusting Audience
If you want your audience to trust you, you need to break down your walls and build connections with your audience. Honestly, I don’t really know myself but when someone needs my advice or ask questions, I will definitely help by sharing my own experience.
I’d rather my audience see me as a fellow blogger friend than as a business. When joining this community, I’ve seen many bloggers out there who take a different approach and keep it strictly business professional. Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to be professional!
But, I’m not going to be so uptight when I’m not. I make mistakes, I don’t get everything perfect on the first try launching my blog, and I definitely have bad and frustrating moments during researching, writing, and creating my contents.
So, here’s the thing. Be You. Be Real. Don’t try to be perfect – this word is non-existent in life. Even the successful bloggers who claim they make $10,000 a month. They are still learning and make mistakes too.
Provide Quality Content
Do your best to provide quality content that is free. I have visited many websites where bloggers have only paid courses and no other valuable information. You might exit out altogether.
If you plan to have a course to sell, you better provide some freebies beforehand. Your audience needs to know and learn who you and how valuable your information really is.
My tip for you is to start with your email list management. What you can do is create a new page in your blog where you put all your freebies there and use a password, so only subscribers can access it.
Most people will subscribe when you offer them valuable content that is free. Then at the end of your email, you can provide them with a link to your product you are selling. I even tell my subscribers a discount code on the product I am selling too, to thank them for being a subscriber!
Create A Community For Your Audience
I create a Facebook community for my audience and it’s still a new brand community. I love having a community because I can connect with my audience on a more personal level.
You can also answer questions and give feedback to them. It’s your own space to use it however you’d like! You can share your blog posts, share your products, share your services where your audience can see it.
Running a community needed a lot of time and dedication. If you really want an active community of loyal audiences, you need to dedicate your time to your daily blogging schedule to make sure you are active in your group.
If you run a community properly, you can build a great relationship, friendship, and loyal audiences!
This one can be a bit sensitive, but don’t get me wrong, it’s so easy for bloggers to lie. You probably see there are so many bloggers who claim they make $10,000 or more a month and they receive 50,000 or 10,000 pageviews, but do you really trust that? How do you know?
The only way to build trust with your audience to prove that you are telling the truth, don’t be afraid to show stats!
The fact is there are bloggers out there that will ‘spice’ up their story to make you purchase. I know not all bloggers like that. But I believe in stats, not just numbers.
Let’s be a bit reasonable. That would be great to make $10,000 money from blogging – even in your first years is a bit crazy! Is it possible to make that much in a month? Anything is possible, dear! But how realistic is it to happen right away? … That would be a lot of hard work, time, and dedication. Daily.
But, back again, everyone has different experiences. I’m not saying that bloggers are all lying, but just be realistic with yourself and with your audience. Show the proof and tell the truth!
If you are able to make $500 a month then show the proof to back up your content. Don’t juice up your story! The more proof you show, the more your audience will actually believe you.
Take screenshots of your analytics or your blogging progress then show it to your audiences or clients that you are able to prove your quality! In the end, don’t lie to your audience, they will catch on.
Engage With Your Audience
Believe me, engaging is not only about sharing your blog posts on your social media. Sometimes it can get tough trying to make sure you respond back to every comment, mention, e-mail, message, etc.
But, if you take the time to acknowledge your audience, you will build trust! They will continue to come back to you because they feel valued.
So, before you launch your product, offer your product for free to exchange for an honest review. If those who purchased your product enjoyed it, they will most likely spread it by word of mouth!
You can also create an affiliate program for your product so that you are giving back to those who help you spread the good word!
Have A Launch Promotion
This one is absolutely worth doing! Everyone loved discounts, am I right?
You could offer a discount code for the first 50 who purchased! Everyone wanted to be the first 50 so they could purchase at a discounted price! It will really help you a lot and it’s not always about the money. I know what it’s like to really want something but not able to afford it!
Have A Professional Appearance On Your Site
Honesty, when reading stories on an online platform, I enjoy it more if their writing is neat, break down the stories in short paragraphs, and use the punctuation properly. Overall, those are the ones that are attractive to my eyes, not only about the story’s plot.
So, other than providing quality content, the one that I check when visiting someone’s blog is their blog’s appearance. If their blogs look messy, not attractive to the eyes, hard to navigate, I probably won’t want to purchase because I might be afraid that the value isn’t there.
If you are trying to sell a product, you might need to create a site with value, meaning you need to invest in your site. Most businesses don’t grow without investing!
Here my tips to make yourself look professional:
- Self-hosted and have your own domain name. This will make people take you more seriously with your own domain.
- Have a clean or organized theme that isn’t overwhelming to look at. You need to show your personality and to look professional at the same time! Some of my favorite themes can be found at Creative Market and Bluchic.
I know I always mention this on my blog. This is the last tip but the most important tips of all!
Blogging is about consistency. How will you build trust with your audience if you aren’t consistent? For instance, you disappear and stop posting every other week. I understand, sometimes life can slow you down.
It’s okay to take breaks. But if you are taking breaks so often and you are consistently not showing up and failing to prove quality content, your audience might begin to lose trust in you.
I find that the more consistent I am, the more people will pay attention to my content and social media!
Those above are my 9 tips to build a trusting audience. If you are a new blogger, the beginning is always the hardest but once you get a few loyal purchasers, the rest will follow!
